Most of the dating apps out there are targeted towards the men, and any relationship depends on the first move by men. Whitney Wolfe Herd has managed to change the face of dating apps by creating an app, Bumble, that allow only the women to make the first and giving the power to them to take the relationship forward. The CEO and the founder of the app, Whitney Wolfe Herd, has overcome challenges of her own to create an app that has more than 22 million registered users and has seen about 70% growth in its profit since it came into existence. It was only in 2016 August that the company started monetizing its app and has already reached $100 million by 2017. The company aims to double the figure by the end of 2018.
Whitney Wolfe Herd had the thought to create a women-centric dating app through her own dating experiences. Many people from other industries thought that the app would not work and it is against the norm for the woman to make the first move in a relationship. But, Whitney was determined to change this mindset of people, and the success of the app shows that other women feel the same way. The entire workforce of Bumble is also female dominated. About 80% of its employees are women, and it is the women who have control of the top positions in the country. The app also does not allow any sexist comment and all such users using abusive languages are banned from the app for a lifetime. Whitney is also of the opinion that because of some bad guys, it is wrong to keep the good guys away and that she has men like Andrey Andreev, the CEO of Badoo, to be her mentor.
Whitney Wolfe Herd also recently launched Bumble Bizz, a tool that would provide women with different facilities to advance in their career. Users can create a profile at the social networking website including their skills, jobs and other essential details. It allows women to get in touch with business contacts and help open better job opportunities for women in the area they prefer. Whitney Wolfe Herd was honored as one of the top 30 under 30 women and was featured on the magazine cover for the December 2017 issue. She has one advice for all other female entrepreneur and that is to follow their dreams and never let someone else tell them how to live their lives.
